A new beadwork idea

I want to create some beadwork pieces that are a little bit different. I have an idea to blend the old beadwork methods, with some more contemporary patterns.

A friend of mine gave me these great little pieces of turquoise, they are flat, and have 4 holes drilled in them. They are perfect for these projects, so I made this little pouch with one. The turquoise is gorgeous, and I wanted to use bead colors that compliment and make the stone stand out. All the beads on this little pouch are antique size 12′s.

The strap has antique pony beads.

My plan is to use different stones, bead colors and patterns to create some unique pouches, and small purses. The pouches can be worn just like any other piece of jewelry, and small purses are a great way to carry just your phone and a lipstick for a fun day or night out.

My next project is going to be a leather beaded bracelet with turquoise just like this, only square cut. I’m excited to get started on that one. I have seen beaded leather bracelets, but none with a turquoise center piece.

The ideas are endless with this. There are so many different kinds of stones out there, and bead patterns are hindered only by your imagination.
