Today’s Artsy Fartsy Artist is Caterpillar art.
I love these insect and frog inspired pieces of jewelry. Who doesn’t love a cute bug, like a butterfly or caterpillar? Personally, I love the tree frogs! I have always loved tree frogs with their bright colors, and cute big eyes.
Every piece is one of a kind and unique, and that makes them extra special.
About the artist
I’ve been fascinated with insects and other critters for as long as I can remember – from the tiniest beetles, tarantulas and scorpions, to awe inspiring giant constrictors and monitors. I still remember bringing home “treasures” to my parents after flipping over rocks around our home when I was little – even though I’m pretty sure I was the only one who thought there was anything to treasure about them!
To this day, caterpillars are still one of my favorite things to watch. I love everything about them, from the rainbow of colors they come in to they way the move. There’s just something special about holding a delicately curled up ‘pillar in your hand, which is what inspired me to start Caterpillar Arts. Although most of the pendants I make have an insect theme, some of them are just nature inspired, like tiny poison dart frogs. I also have a fascination with octopuses, so you’ll see octopus jewelry pop up in my shop, as well – sculpting tentacles is too fun to pass up!
All the pendants you’ll find in this store are carefully hand-sculpted out of polymer clay – no commercial molds are ever used in any part of the process. Because of this, every piece has its own unique quirks and personality, which guarantees your pendant will never be exactly like anyone else’s. After the piece has hardened, I hand paint the pattern and then finish it with a crystal clear gloss coat to protect all of the little details. Depending on the intricacy of the pattern, this step can take many hours to get just right!
If you have any questions about the way these pendants are made, or you would like to custom order a special pendant based off of one of your pets, feel free to visit my website, and shoot me an e-mail.
