JD Challenger painting in house at the gallery

JD Challenger was an Artsy Fartsy Tuesday artist a year ago. I love his work, and was so excited when he agreed to be featured.  Then last summer, I had the opportunity to get to know JD and his wife when they were here for the Jackson art festival in September. This summer, JD has moved his art studio into the back of the gallery and has been painting there full time. He is creating some new pieces that are pretty fantastic.

I love talking to JD, he has great stories behind so many of his paintings, and I learned last year, that the models for all his paintings are his friends who will come and sit for a few days. If you look at the paintings, you’ll recognize who the different people are.

Most of his work is done on larger canvas, so between the vibrant colors he uses, the subject matter, and the large size, they are commanding pieces. I would give anything to have one of his pieces. I don’t know how I would fit it in the RV……..

  2. Thanks for featuring JD. He is an awesome artist and I love the large scale paintings he does that show a statement about the first people. Several years ago I traded a Gallery owner in Escalante for a numbered Serigraph of one of his Paintings called “strikes at Sunrise. I had it matted and framed in barn wood. Its the focal pint in my living room. I also donated carved gourds to the Out of your gourd charity festival he started in New Mexico. I do recognize some of the people modeling in the paintings in other ones I’ve seen. You should do a trade for one of his paintings. You can even store it here at my house.
