Mesa Falls Scenic Byway

On Wednesday we drove over to West Yellowstone, MT for the day. We wanted to go to the little mountain man rendezvous they have there, well, it’s more like a trader-vous because they just have traders there selling stuff. But a bunch of our friends were there, and it was nice to see them again.
We then went into West Yellowstone to find a shop that contacted me through twitter. She is a fan of our artwork and mentioned if we are ever in town to stop and say hi. It’s always so much fun to meet someone that you have met through the social media network. Noel, has a great little shop there in town and we discussed placing some of my beadwork and jewelry in her store for next season. And, she was one of the nicest people I’ve met.
We then decided to take the scenic way home, and I’m sure glad we did. The Mesa falls scenic byway runs somewhat parallel to the main highway that everyone drives to West Yellowstone, but there were not a lot of people going that way.

And we got to see Mesa Falls, which is spectacular. This is the upper falls, and it’s huge, and breathtaking.

One of the coolest things about this canyon and waterfall, is the micro climate that exists on the canyon walls from the mist of the waterfall.

We drove down the road about a mile and came to the lower falls lookout. This lookout was not as close to the river as the first one. There was a trail that led down the canyon, but it was getting late and we didn’t have the time or the shoes for a hike.

Even from a distance this is an amazing waterfall.

We had a nice day out of town and got to see some amazing country. Always a good thing.

Today I linked up with the See Beautiful blog hop. Lots of beauty, check it out.
